What’s the difference between people who live life to the fullest and those who just go through an ordinary life? Surprisingly, the secret lies in their daily routine! Daily routines, or as we know as ‘habits’, are a huge determinant to your life story. Let’s think about some habits that you have. Are you using your time wisely to practice good habits, or do you carry bad habits that waste your life away without realizing it?
We have talked about some health and eating-related bad habits before, but bad habits don’t only end in long-term sickness or harmful side effects. Sometimes they just steal away your full potential to make the most out of your life. Watch out for these habits that you might not realize are costing you!
1. Sitting too long
Life has just got more convenient for us, hasn’t it? We have easy access to transportation everywhere, ordering food and other necessities is just one click away, we can get a lot of things done without even getting off our chair! However, your body needs to do more movements than just scrolling your phone or typing on your keyboard. The human body is built to stand upright. Our heart, bones, blood circulation and digestion work better when we stand up and move about. You can still move around easily when you’re young, so don’t waste this privilege and regret it later!
2. Spending too much time on social media
A wise saying once goes, “Time is what we want most, but what we use worst.” Most of us complain that we only have 24 hours in a day. Guess what, all of us have the same amount of time but there are some who use it better than others! Are you guilty of spending too much time scrolling through your Instagram feed or reading useless gossips online? They might be entertaining, but they’re costing you valuable time that you can use for other things, like spending quality time with your loved ones, accomplishing your work and hobbies, and other healthy activities. Why not switch those mindless entertainment for learning new things that stimulate your brain instead?
3. Not planning your budgets
This is especially true for those who are employed. We tend to be so excited for payday but once it comes, we blow our money and can’t even remember how we wasted all of it! We end up having very little, or even no more money to save. Saving money is a tricky habit but you can learn to do so by always planning ahead. Set aside some amount of your income every month to your savings account, and tell yourself you only have a fixed amount of budget to spend on leisure, shopping and other things. The key here is to discipline yourself because money is an awful master once it controls you, but you’ll be fine if you know how to master your money!
Are you guilty for any of these bad habits? If yes, it might be time to start replacing them with small positive actions, like taking a morning or evening walk, and choosing the stairs instead of the elevator. Put your phone down and spend more time interacting with the real world, and start a budget plan to secure your finances! Don’t worry, you can always start replacing them with good, healthy habits that your future self will thank you for!
